Notes From the Department

Dear Colleagues,

Every week, I hear from students who suggest that it “must be really quiet without us around during the summer.” While that is definitely true, the summer is our chance to get caught up and plan for the upcoming year—and we have a lot going on!

This fall we start the self-study year for the MHA program’s Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) re-accreditation. As a leading national program, we are well-positioned for a successful review. As it should be, the process is challenging us to take a critical look at all aspects of the program. We will be seeking input from our alumni in a variety of ways throughout the process and will be re-invigorating an MHA Program Advisory Council to be comprised of program alumni from different sectors and career stages.

We are also in the process of revamping our professional development programming. We have added a mandatory professional development seminar for incoming first-year students and are partnering with HSMP Alumni Society and the student-led Association of Future Health Care Executives (AFHE) to coordinate initiatives. We will be building on the successful Alumni Fellowship Coaching program—developed and coordinated by Aaron Fields, MHA ’08—to launch a mentoring program in which first-year students will be paired with an alumni mentor.

If you would like to hear more about these efforts or are interested in getting involved, or would just like to share your thoughts and ideas, please feel free to email me at robbins.11@osu.edu.

In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer!

MHA Program Director & Clinical Assistant Professor

Call for Executive Committee Nominations

We’re now collecting nominations of alumni to serve on the Executive Committee for the 2016-2018 term. All HSMP alumni are entitled to nominate fellow alumni or themselves to serve as officers of the society. You may also select which committees you’re interested in serving at the end of the form.

Updated Constitution and Bylaws

In keeping with the overall alumni engagement strategy of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, the Executive Committee of the HSMP Alumni Society is proposing a change to the membership model of the Society. In summary, we are eliminating the membership dues model and replacing it with a model focused on sustained giving. You can read a more detailed summary on our website.

Adoption of this membership model proposed and endorsed by the Executive Committee of the HSMP Alumni Society requires an update to our Society’s Constitution and Bylaws with approval by our membership. We are soliciting all active members vote on the changes proposed above in the redlined versions of our Constitution and Bylaws.
