Constitution and Bylaws 2015 Change Summary

By Elizabeth Seely, President, HSMP Alumni Society

In keeping with the overall alumni engagement strategy of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, the Executive Committee of the HSMP Alumni Society is proposing a change to the membership model of the Society.

In summary, we are eliminating the membership dues model and replacing it with a model focused on sustained giving.

Rather than requiring the annual payment of dues to be a Society member, all graduates of the HSMP program will automatically be granted basic membership status in the HSMP Alumni Society. Basic members will receive at least annual communications from the HSMP Alumni Society and will be entitled to vote in Society elections.

A new level of membership, sustaining membership, will be offered to graduates who make an annual tax-deductible contribution of at least $40 to the current-use HSMP Alumni Society Enhancement Fund. This fund will be used to support Society activities, including student attendance at Society events.

The current Society life member status will remain unchanged, but no new life members will be added unless they have already started the life member payment process as of May 2015.

Benefits of sustaining and life membership include eligibility to hold an office in the HSMP Alumni Society, access to the bi-annual salary survey, access to the online directory, an option to order a hard copy directory, event discounts and recognition as a sustaining or life member of the Society.

Sustaining members in the HSMP Alumni Society also have the option of becoming sustaining members of the OSU Alumni Association with an additional annual $35 tax-deductible gift (total of $75) to any HSMP development fund. Benefits of OSUAA sustaining membership include access to purchase single game football tickets, discounts and much more.

Adoption of this membership model proposed and endorsed by the Executive Committee of the HSMP Alumni Society requires an update to our Society’s Constitution and Bylaws with approval by our membership. We are soliciting your vote on the changes proposed above in the redlined versions of our Constitution and Bylaws. Please submit your vote by the end of day Friday, July 3, 2015.
